TRAVELLING FROM GREENLAND TO FINLAND

We are happy to be here at NSU in Finland, we are lucky to be the first Greenlandic participants at the NSU.

Our names are Tupaarnaq and Parnuuna. We are nurse students in the University of Greenland (Ilisimatusarfik). We are volunteering at Sex Inuk. Sex Inuk is volunteer organisation for sexual education to children at age from 12 - 13 years in public school. Sex Inuk runs by nurse students in Greenland. Our latest work at the organisation, is a short movie. The short movie is a Campaign on STDs, which are common in Greenland among youngsters. The campaign is on Facebook and national TV, KNR.

We travelled from Greenland to Copenhagen, and it took about 4,30 - 5 hours, and stayed in Copenhagen. Sunday we flew to Helsinki, we met Christine Fentz at Kastrup airport - Copenhagen, whom is also participating at NSU. She was our saviour of the trip, and she took us to the right places in good time.

When we arrived to Orivesi, we experienced a warm welcome from everybody.

The first day, we didn’t know anything about what to expect, institute leader Suzanne Møller
told us before we came here, that we could be a blogging the conference or something completely different.

So we thought that our mission was going to be to make a blog-site on the internet, about what we do. It turns out NSU is not so much a blogging thing. But we are to find out which circle we fit in, by visiting different circles as we were informed on day 2 by Disa Kamula. We have been visiting different circles, and we have already got a lot of good and interesting information from the circles.

We heard Finland has a lot of lakes and saunas, so we went to swimming in a lake, and have a plan to go sauna. We haven’t swum in a long time, so we where exhausted after swimming.

NSU is a good organisation, and we can recommend NSU for other students also from difference academic disciplines, in University of Greenland. This is because there are many good circles that fit all the different academic disciplines. We will take our experience from here back to Greenland and we look forward to tell all about the NSU to other students and teachers.
If you want to know more about University of Greenland, you can visit the web side www.uni.gl .

Many people have asked about summer in Greenland, summer starts about June and ends late August. The landscape is very beautiful.
